The world is shaped to dollars. Costs and expenses, budgets and bottom lines: all lives are dominated by the quest for finance — and you are no different. There are pennies you must save and bargains you must find; and an education therefore must prove itself to be worthy of more than mere classes. It must instead afford you the security you’ve been craving. All courses must be wise. All choices must be deliberate. You want more than the promise of money. You want the fulfillment of that promise. And what you study must then offer ever-expanding growth and guaranteed positions.
It must also, however, provide happiness.
While none can deny the need for practical courses of study, none can also deny the need for satisfaction. A career chosen purely for fiscal reasons will be a career that is despised. No wages can compensate for drudgery; and individuals who choose to define their days by profits will quickly learn the unfortunate truth — such days quickly become tedious.
It’s vital then to understand the balance between sense and happiness. You need wages. You also, however, need contentment. The two are not mutually exclusive. They must instead be combined — understood as equally important.
Consider first what your interests are. Know your strengths, talents and potential. Once these have been discovered, chart out how they can be applied to the real world — trying to find careers that support what you love while also being able to support you. Never choose a course of study simply for its financial possibilities. This will only lead to regret later: with you struggling to summon the energy for work, wanting only to escape it.
And no promotions can be earned then — only the disappointment of managers and the loss of employer respect. The cycle feeds itself and the result is stress.
A course of study must be understood as more than logical. It must instead provide genuine happiness. Make no decisions that are purely monetary. Choose instead to lace your desire for dollars with your love of certain fields. This will ensure success.
