Defining Distance

Miles are fiendish things. Distance is cruel. These are the realizations that burden you, weighing down the future and its possibilities. An education is meant to be pursued; knowledge is meant to be found. The school of your dreams, however, is settled too far from home — and travel isn’t a notion you can even consider now. Its expense is too damning. Its demands are too great. You can’t leave a town and the consequence is desperation. No classes can be sought. No credits can be earned. It instead seems to be a hopeless situation; and you think there’s nothing to do but submit.

You’re wrong.

There is instead the option of a distance education; and this must be considered by all who wish to find more than local academics.

As its name implies, distance education is the study of specific courses without being on site at a university. Individuals instead access their classes virtually, using technology to make the transition. Online chats, seminars and testing are available — ensuring that students can earn the degrees of their choosing without having to leave home. This becomes especially important when certain duties (like jobs, family, a lack of funds or poor health) can’t be denied.

Too often is it believed that classes must be defined by proximity: individuals assume they can’t pursue any credits that aren’t centered around their homes. Such an assumption is incorrect, however. All major universities (and many colleges) offer distance programs; and these allow students to find the credits they need, without struggling with travel. It’s a compromise that offers instant rewards.

Never think yourself incapable of receiving the education you desire. Choose instead to conquer state lines and defy all miles.
