Choosing Schools, Choosing Courses

It’s an intention you’ve never denied — education was always to be a local affair, was to be centered within the boundaries you know so well. There were no new miles to seek. You wished instead to remain at home, collecting support from your friends and family as you attempted to earn a degree. But that wish is proving to be difficult. Your course of study isn’t offered at the college you’ve chosen. It’s instead ignored, lost among the more traditional credits; and you’re now confused. All plans have been ruined. All desires have been shaken. There seems to be nothing to do beyond selecting a new career path and that… does not appeal.

It shouldn’t.

The course of study you wish to pursue is the one you must find — and sometimes this requires leaving the familiarity of home.

All education is defined by availability: classes must offered and credits must earned. This becomes impossible, however, when courses aren’t provided by specific schools. Individuals must then reshape their intentions and other institutions must be sought.

The degree you’re considering determines the college you must attend. This is a simple truth but an all too unhappy one. Education isn’t always a convenience. It’s instead forced to different locations — and traveling may be required to find the knowledge you want.

Research carefully therefore to discover which school is right for you: some universities may include the chance to earn a degree or stand alone colleges may instead be needed. Recognize which will provide the best lessons possible, offering the courses you want and the ease you crave. Never assume all institutions will be the same. Note their differences early instead, allowing yourself the ability to dismiss what is simply impossible.

A course of study isn’t the only decision to make for life after high school. Where to seek an education is instead just as important.
